The Glutton's Sins

Decided to go back into posting food reviews since we loved eating so much. Went to Sakae Sushi at Basement One of Century Square on Sunday, 18 July before going marketing. June ordered a Esprit Passion fruit, however, they served a Esprit Raspberry. Strangely, the servers had it obvious; when they took the order, when they repeated the order, when they were checking the bill, they all said "passion fruit". But they didn't seem to understand my glare at them since they served a raspberry and they haven't even noticed. And they totally didn't serve the chawanmushi we ordered, found out it wasn't even written down on the checklist.

Century Square Basement 1 - Sakae Sushi
Counter clockwise from the Top left corner, our dinner of Curry Kastu Don, Chicken Katsu Don and Chicken Kaminabe.

Curry Katsu Don
This June's favorite dish, and she'll almost order this every time she eats at a Japanese restaurant. Unless she's having sushi buffet at Sakae. Rich and flavorful curry, potatoes and carrots over a generous portion of chicken katsu cutlet and a bed of sushi rice. Simple yet satisfying.

8/10 - Generally, japanese curry is really hard to mess up, unless you are trying it served at foodcourts or coffeshops, usually bland and watery. I would just prefer it a tad more spicy. I wished they have chilli powder or something to let me spice it up to my liking.

Chicken Katsu Don
As compared to June's favorite Curry Katsu Don, this very simple dish is surprisingly not available at a lot of places. Yet when available, is screwed up most of the time. Its suppose to be called Oyako Don actually, but probably because they use the Deep fried chicken katsu cutlet, so they named it otherwise? Not the best, but acceptable and most easily available, and decently priced. Generous portion of chicken katsu too.

7/10 - This is considered the best of this dish at an affordable range. But I know I remember vividly of some super wonderful Oyako Don I tried before when I was really young.

Chicken Kaminabe
In other words, paper hot pot. All the ingredients are fine, except the chicken and most importantly; the soup. The chicken is obviously from frozen source, then precooked long before this dish and taste awfully not fresh. The soup is worst; basically its bland and even cooking the pot for some time, tastes like hot water. We had to add soy sauce and even miso soup to enhance it. Wonder if the cook forgot to add something.

3/10 - Save your money. I would recommend a sukiyaki or the beef kimchi kaminabe instead, both at the same price as this one I ordered.

3D Movie Primers

Last evening, I've just had my first ever experience in watching a specific type of film. Virgin, whatever you call that. But it was ecstatic as it really brought out that special sensory. I really enjoyed it. 3D Film I meant, by the way. It's titled Despicable Me, and I'm glad I didn't attempt to watch it in 2D just to save the little bit of money. However, for those who are like me, catching a 3D movie for the first time, I think it's important to highlight some points to take note of.

First and most important; Do not wear glasses. If you are myopic, wear contact lenses instead. Some people like me who are just too used to wearing glasses, may just head into the theater forgetting that we have to wear those 3D glasses. Your glasses will just get in the way of the 3D glasses. Most probably , you can only wear either pair unless you had Pinocchio's nose. If you wear the 3D glasses only, your are short sighted; If you wear your glasses, you can see everything perfectly but the movie you paid for. As for those young one's who think ultra big & thick frames are so trendy, I would love to see how big a fool you'd look like trying to wear both.

Next is the lens of the glasses; they do not appear to be very clean. Stained with fingerprints, oily streak marks, to stuff you wished you didn't know, somehow you'll naturally try to wipe it clean with your shirt or something. I can tell you that the general cotton fabric that we wear is unable to remove marks or residue. How about bringing some glass/LCD panel cleaning solution and a polish cloth the next time?

If hand-foot-mouth disease often breeds from child care centers, the cinemas would be the next big thing in the near future. The glasses may be fairly new for now, but they will wear down in a matter of time, carrying germs, bacteria, nacho sauce, soft drink and spreading it to the masses. Remember those times when chewing gum was a problem? Pranksters would stick them to the bottom of the theater chairs or arm-rest? Imagine if they were now to stick the gum to the bridge of the glasses where it'll rest on our nose? Oh... & trust me. the cinema staff will not bother or care less to clean, check or sterilize the glasses. They just place them back onto the racks and await new unsuspecting victims.

What I recommend is, bring some of those nice little package of cleaning wipes or wet tissues. Like Dettol Wipes. Especially if you are very prone or vulnerable to acne or skin diseases, make the show your last stop before home. Hit the showers once you're back and give your T-zone a good thorough scrub.

I'm not discouraging 3D movies, in fact they are spectacular. Just some of my 2 cents worth.

Movie Review: Despicable Me

Those short & cute yellow minions really caught my attention when they played the trailer on TV. At that point of time, I knew I was going to catch the movie. After I did so today with June, I stopped complaining about the $14 it costs per ticket. Oh yeah, I caught it in 3D of course.

In his conquest to dominate the world by stealing the moon, this supposedly super-villian crosses paths with an arch-enemy, more evil then he is. Along the storyline, he adopts 3 little girls and takes on his paternal instincts, slowly developing a strong emotional bond with his "daughters" and entailing a heart-warming scenario. Agnes, the youngest of the 3 girls [played by Elsie Fisher] is awesome sweet and adorable, and carries one of the strongest tag-lines in this movie; "It's so Fluffy!!!"

The movie was loaded with hilarious scenes throughout, never a dull moment. For those who think it's just another childish animation, you may be utterly wrong. Grown ups would love this movie too. In fact, the theater was almost full and I didn't really see much children. Unless you still have a hard time dying to mature mentally, or want to act like an adult, you should catch it, whichever way you would like. I'll recommend on the big screen of course, simply because you wouldn't be able to catch it in 3D anywhere else at this stage. This feature really brings out the movies and elevates it to a new dimension.

I'm supposed to touch on some primers about watching 3D films, but I'm too tired to carry on for now. If you are still not eager to watch this movie, I've embedded the trailer below for your enjoyment. Go ahead, it wouldn't kill you to give yourself 2 minutes plus of your life.

New Fragrance from Davidoff

Davidoff - Silver Shadow: Altitude

Being a collector of Davidoff Fragrances, this new variation of the Silver Shadow instantly became my favorite. I know I didn't take a great picture by the way, pardon me. I don't know how to describe the smell too anyway; It's refreshing, not too strong, not too musky either. Actually I bought the 100ml bottle roughly 2-3 weeks ago off the Davidoff counter at Takashimaya at about $120+. Sounds costly to most people right? But June and me always preferred to purchase the "original". Though at a fraction of the original price, identical fragrances purchased in other shops don't seem to smell the same or simply doesn't last. Unfortunately they don't carry the miniatures anymore at the main counters, so instead they gave me 2 tubes of 50ml Shower Gel from the Cool Water series. Lucky for me, when June and I were shopping around in Bugis Street just last week, we spotted the miniature; it costed $12 for just that small 7.5ml bottle. Hefty price to pay for a collection like this... ... I couldn't resist...

Before and After

Those photos above were taken for my security pass; The one on the left is before, 3 years ago when I joined St_rh_b and the one on the right is after, where I recently took for my new job.

When I complain about getting fat, I remember my sis saying, "Aiyah, how bad can it be? I've seen you for so long, no matter how fat you were, your face is still sharp." Now I would like to show these photos to her, and it is no longer difficult to spot the big amount of fats that built up around my neck and cheeks. I don't have to take pictures of my middle torso before and after, that's too punishing for most to see. I can only describe that I used to be wearing a size 30 but now, size 36. It's really a challenge shopping for jeans or pants now.

Well, I do have to take some precaution and actions to make myself the young man I used to be. And oh yeah... that profile picture on the far top right hand corner of this blog; it's obviously an old picture. I am... er... lazy to change it. That's right, I'm just lazy...

Putting behind the Past

From the fortune cookie, it translates as ...

- Friends are like beans; They "speak from behind" -

It is nonsense, yet speaks of some extent of truth. Friends are important, but just as important to be wary of those fake friends who talk behind your back. I think there's a certain humor to that statement too, but if you are waiting for the punchline... it had been way over...

Blabberish ahead, don't read on if you only like the good things in life.

I wasn't trying to revive my blog by the way, nor did I think of making my blog popular anyway. I knew I never was, and never intended. What I am really trying to do now is to purify my blog; remove the bitches and bad experiences and turn this back to normal again.

Actually, things all happen with a reason; some with ugly disturbing truth, but some also comes as a blessing in a disguise. Nonetheless, the tide is over and pointless to look back. My dear June is correct too: too much anger and hatred in my posts. Though I usually am an angry person, but I shall cut down to the more interesting stuff
